10 Morning Habits You Need

So recently I have been trying to be more mindful about creating a morning and night routine. I’ll admit mornings are rough for me. I will hit snooze forever and even set alarms for 2 or 5 minutes just to get a little extra sleep. Part of me wanting to get any extra minute has to do with my severe issue of being a night owl (as I type this at 10:30 PM on a work night…)

P.S. I had made this post long before this virus pushed everyone at home. I feel like it could be especially helpful to start the day while working from home.

Anyways.. I’ve tested out my morning routine for about two months now and here is my perfect outline. I do NOT do this every morning – I try to squeeze in what I can and what I’m feeling that morning! If a perfect morning happens it goes like this:

  • Drink & vitamins
  • Skincare routine – I don’t wash my face in the mornings! All of my natural oils have restored & I have nothing to wash off so I usually just moisturize!
  • Gua sha/jade roll with oil = heavenly
  • Meditate/movement/stretch/yogi
  • Make the bed
  • Some type of writing – planning my day, brain dump, setting an intention
  • Daily devotional – little bible read

1. Have the perfect drink!

I personally try not to have coffee every day and really only have it when I’m in the mood or need a little pick me up from my sleepiness. But nothing beats my oat milk latte in the morning. I love the smell of coffee. I’ve recently been into matcha, green juices, immunity shots, orange juice, coffee or just plain water. I love the matcha powder from Trader Joe’s and all their immunity shots.

What I use to make coffee!!

2. Take your vitamins

I always try to start my mornings with vitamins! These are what I use below. I love the hair, skin and nails one! I’ve also added in zinc and vitamin C to potentially boost my immune system.

3. Meditate

Whenever I see a blogger post about their meditation routine I immediately think *eye roll* “who has the time?!” but what I’ve learned is that with anything you want you need to make time. I use the headspace app and I’m obsessed! There are so many different sections. I love the sleep sessions and the meditations the most. I am currently doing a session all about managing stress. You can try it out for free! P.S. if you’re in education it’s free aka teachers this little breather is for you 😌✌🏼 Teachers click here!

Also they have a free session all about how to find peace and calm your anxiety during this uncertain time. Click here for access. Headspace has also created free resources for health care professionals, work transition, & educators.

4. Skincare routine

I’ve recently been really into gua sha and oils. This makes me feel the most ~*zen~* I love the calming feeling and apparently it depuffs your face!

5. Move your body

Personally I like a little morning stretch or yoga in the comfort of the bedroom. I have to get to work so early that an 8AM boxing class just doesn’t fit into my routine. But if a morning workout fits into yours totally do it! I need to drag my butt down to the gym in our building one morning to try it!

6. Make your bed

I always try to make the bed in the morning. It makes everything look so much more put together and you feel slightly accomplished.

7. Brain dump

Take time to just pour out whatever is on your mind – totally unfiltered. Kind of like a diary moment!

Some journals:

8. Plan and prep

To do lists until I die. Take some time to plan your day out. What are your goals? What do you need to get done? What do you want to get done? Plan plan plan!!!

9. Send some love

Nothing feels better than getting a sweet message in the morning. Sometimes I make a point to send a kind message to someone I love just because! Also now that we have time, nothing is better than a FaceTime from someone you love!

Text or call your parents, siblings, grandma, in-laws, cousins, friends, significant other, etc.

🥰❤️😘

10. Set an intention

Similar to meditation but this is more purposeful. Set an intention for your day. What is your goal and focus? This can be small. Could be something simple like:

*I’m going to let go of what I can’t control today*

*I’m going to be more patient today*

I hope that these morning tips helped. Creating a morning routine has been helpful for me to start my day off on the right foot and look forward to the little things. P.S. Don’t add in anything you don’t like but don’t knock what you haven’t tried. Give anything a try and see what sticks. Add in one or maybe two of these tips for just a week to see how you feel! Also now that you have some time that you’re working from home, really trial and error what fits best for you in the mornings! Make time for yourself, your body and your mind!

Always,

Madison
