10 Fitness Motivation Tips for 2020

Book a class! Classes can be quite the splurge (especially here in NYC) but I try to think of it as an hour of a personal trainer. All I have to do is follow their directions and try to not shake or cry lol. But really booking a class is the best way to hold yourself accountable because if you cancel that’s lost money! I personally love using classpass because I can switch up my workouts!

Trade in the dating apps. No I don’t mean you shouldn’t go to that Italian restaurant with that cute guy from Hinge. But adding workout apps onto my phone has been a game changer for when I head to the gym frantically googling an ab workout.

Some favorites include: The Sweat App by Kayla Itsnies – free trial, Sezzy (Sweat it to Shred it), Nike Training Club (great for tracking your running loop), 6 Pack Promise (SO hard), Peloton and Strong Workout Tracker Gym Log (one of my personal favorites for creating your own workout). I do NOT believe in calorie counting or meal tracking apps at all. But if that’s for you, do your thing!

The perfect “beast mode” playlist. I need a playlist that makes me feel like I walk in and own the place. But nothing is more annoying than clicking through to find the perfect “I run the world” song. Here are two of my workout playlists on Spotify that I love!

Grind & Grind 2.0 – play MIC Drop (feat Designer) Steve Aoki Remix or Pure Water and buhhhh bye I’m running so fast because I’m so hype.

Power walking on an incline is your new best friend. People who can run 3 miles on a treadmill at speed 7….without stopping…can’t relate. I’m more of a sprinter so if I’m not power walking I will do a light jog and crank that baby up to 9 and jump on and off for sprints.

Don’t push too hard. If you’re just getting back into it don’t overextend yourself for that extra minute of sweat. We are going for longevity here not the power of a punch that almost just broke your knuckle because you’re trying to outthrow the girl in the second row sis. If you’re feeling it with the medium weight keep it there and build! The big challenge will always still be there.

Buddy system! Getting a gym buddy or having someone to keep you accountable is a great way to get back to it. I’m such a baby and usually love someone coming to a workout class with me to feel more comfy. Pass for the wine night and go to that cool new rowing class with some sweetgreen after!

A workout at home is better than no workout at all. If you’re not feeling the gym try an at home workout! Obé fitness is also great! Dancebody also just came out with an at home program aka dance party in the living room!

Edit what you’re taking in on social media. The fitness and health community on social media is truly endless. Follow a bunch of accounts for inspiration, ideas, workouts, recipes and overall motivation to stay on track!

Pinterest but in real life. If you have to hang up some motivational quotes to get your butt moving onto your mirror then so be it! Some of my favorites I find on Pinterest.

Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20! You got this!!!
